Virgin Media Pricing

  • Virgin Media have quoted me £145 (from the £85 we pay now) to renew my expiring package with them, I can pretty much match the package to sky for half the price but I’m unsure how their internet compares?

Does anyone have any experience good or bad with Sky?

@JAC I have solid experience with both as you know. My advice here would be to call Virgin and tell them you want to disconnect. When they ask why, tell them it’s too expensive. Keep pushing this mantra, and they will forward you onto the retention team who will do anything to keep your business.

This is how I literally 4 weeks ago went from M350 to 1Gbps and still saved £35 per month.

    Perfect!

I’ve done this and left them to call me back. When speaking with them I was told we can no longer have the pods for free, they’d now be £8 a month extra because we don’t have an O2 SIM.

Either way the matter will get resolved one way or another and when it does I’ll be update this thread 👍🏻.

@JAC keen to hear the update but really surprised they are calling back. They usually keep you on the phone to ensure they keep you at all costs.

  • Ok so, after standing off and letting them get in touch they called and called I wasn’t able to always answer as they’d call me throughout the day at work, I phoned them back a few days ago and told them I keep getting called on this number and they said they can do it for £73 which I said that’s perfect let’s do that, he said it then said hang on a minute I can get it down to £68.

I asked why couldn’t the first person I spoke to couldn’t just give me that sort of price and he said “I’ve no idea, I wouldn’t pay that price myself and if I was you every time your contract is coming to and end, tell us you’re leaving and we will definitely get back with a better price”

@JAC haha! This is the way I always do it. It works 100% for SKY too. Good stuff. One up on the big guys…

  • 100% Mark, they can lower the price when they want to, naturally as it’s a business they quote you stupid prices and they clearly rely on the elderly etc just renewing and not putting up a fight.

@JAC Yep. Don’t fall into that trap 🙂

I have an update regarding this. They both said that they are getting used to navigating Fedora and that it is working great for them so far. They said there is still a bit of a learning curve they are going through but overall happy.

@JAC those speeds are indeed possible over light as a transport medium (if you consider the speed) but I can’t comprehend the distance quoted. If you happen to encounter a solid obstacle, the beam is either absorbed, or deflected meaning the data never arrives.

@phenomlab I will have to test this out in my virtual environment. I have an Arch KDE Plasma install in virtualbox that I am testing a bunch of things out before I actually wipe the hard drive and install linux. I am currently in the process of copying my Arch test web server over to virtualbox on linux to make sure that it works. This is the virtual server that I test updates on before updating the production server. I can’t remember the error I was getting but I think it had to do with the network device. That was on the virtualbox side. So the cloud storage will be the next thing that I test.

@Panda said in NodeBB v4.0.0: the workings of World aren’t intuitive Its not easy to get World populating when a forum is new to it This is a good point and one I’ve considered also. It’s a little confusing to be honest.

@DownPW If you don’t mind a retro display type of Dot Matrix - why on earth would anyone want that? I get the concept, but it’s nothing more than a gimmick and adds zero value to the operation of the handset. Sustainable product… with a £600 plus price tag… “Nothing Phone”? More like “Nothing Special”

@phenomlab Yeah I will have to check that out. I don’t remember when the last time it was updated. That was a good article too by the way.
