Why is the phenomlab/fancybox-wrapper repo removed?

  • Today I did a composer update and I got an error for this, I do not understand why you have removed it, even if you do not use Flarum you could stop maintaining the package, why remove it? it had more than 1000 downloads this hurts many people, I do not find any logical reason for this.

  • Actually, it looks as though Darkle has already done this

@ihhddis it’s been removed as I no longer use Flarum and have no intention of maintaining it. The github repository is now private and the extension has been marked as abandoned on packagist. In addition, I asked for my extiverse account to be deleted as part of my departure.

This extension has been forked several times. Once by Littlegolden so could easily be reinstated by sometime else.

My apologies if this is inconvenient but I’ve no intention of maintaining something I no longer use myself.

@ihhddis I’ve discussed this with @katos who has agreed to assume responsibility for this extension. He’ll be uploading at some point over the coming days, and I expect he’ll make an announcement on Flarum. Essentially, it should be a simple case of

    composer remove phenomlab/fancybox-wrapper

    Then

    composer katosdev/fancybox-wrapper

    Up to @katos though.

@phenomlab indeed, as Darkle has continued this I won’t be hosting the repo any longer but will happily assist with its continued development

For EU-based, end-to-end encrypted cloud storage, here are the strongest options beyond what you’re already using: Tresorit (Switzerland) : Probably the gold standard for E2EE. Zero-knowledge, Swiss/EU data residency, excellent for both file sync and secure sharing. More expensive than competitors but very polished and audited. Filen (Germany) : Zero-knowledge E2EE by default, generous free tier (10GB), very competitive pricing on paid plans, and lifetime plans available. Open-source clients. Popular on the privacy subreddits as a Proton Drive alternative. Internxt (Spain) : Open-source, zero-knowledge E2EE, GDPR-based. Offers storage plus a few extra privacy tools. Lifetime plans available. Younger company, so weigh that against the price. pCloud (Switzerland, registered in EU) : Massive caveat: E2EE is not default. It’s a paid add-on called “pCloud Crypto.” Without it your files are encrypted at rest but not zero-knowledge. The draw is genuine lifetime plans, which can be cost-effective over years if you trust their longevity.

I have to give an update on this. I talked to my father in law a week or two ago when he was visiting and he updated me that Fedora Linux was still treating them good. He said he really liked it and that my mother in law is liking it as well. He even said that he came across a couple of minor issues and was able to solve them on his own. I thought wow, that is awesome! So I am going to say with all confidence right now, that if those two can switch to Linux from Winblows that ANYONE can switch.

@JAC those speeds are indeed possible over light as a transport medium (if you consider the speed) but I can’t comprehend the distance quoted. If you happen to encounter a solid obstacle, the beam is either absorbed, or deflected meaning the data never arrives.
