Thanks mate. I’ll do this tomorrow. Ideally save the files to a zip file?

@jac you’ll need a script to backup the database as this won’t be included in the files by default.

I see mate, unfortunately you’ve lost me there, I do apologise. I’m sure tomorrow I can achieve this.

    @jac Final DB backup completed

I’ve also created a bundled archive of the entire site - all files, folders, and database, located here

    7e1d27c0-a2c9-4fdb-be54-9f6ab87d6f3d-image.png

You should download this file for backup and storage purposes (right-click the file and then you can download it)

    6f7b9fd0-3326-4d97-ba25-8ccd9e60d8b0-image.png

The server can remain as is - unless you are looking to shut that down altogether which kind of defeats the object if you want to continue with another project and domain. I personally would take a snapshot of the server, and also check the backup status - from memory, I set this to backup each night and if that is the case, you’re good to go once you’ve downloaded the .tar.gz file (which can be opened with 7Zip by the way)

I don’t think there are any backups made, but I’ll check now.

@jac Let’s click “Enable Backups”. This way, you don’t need to worry about it, and they are very cheap.

What I’m saying is if I won’t be using it I don’t want to pay for it 😉 😉 .

As in realistically my County forum is finished unfortunately.

@jac If you don’t want to pay for it anymore, then you’ll need to power off and delete the instance also. Hetzner will still charge you for a powered-off instance, and the only way to stop that charge is to delete.

@jac No. This is just the backup for the domain itself. Backup at server level means you can recover the entire machine.

@jac agreed. Particularly if you intend to leave it for an extended period of time, then yes, that makes the most sense. Just remember that if you do decide to embark on that same journey again, the server itself, plus Webmin, Virtualmin, etc, all has to be created from scratch.

Unfortunately yes, I think that would be the best solution.

A blog & forum about Stockport may be hard to do possibly in terms of content, & a church based website and forum could get messy 😛 it just depends how it was done.

If it’s for a single church then it wouldn’t work out in my eyes, it would have to be for anyone to view.

Ok, what’s the scenario to shut my account down? do I still need to take a full backup via Hetzner?

Either that or a tech forum & blog. The idea of something local to me like a Stockport blog would be good but getting hold of information would be difficult.

@Hari the real issue here is that I don’t think it can be used as a theme for WordPress because of the dependencies it clearly has, including its own Web server. My view here is that this is designed to be a complete development environment outside of the WordPress core.

@Panda said in WP / Woocommerce Mystery: Just back to my other question, have you ever used Shopify? It insists on a templating language to use any custom js. Not personally as never had any need, however, I do know that it uses Liquid for JS templating. It’s written in Ruby and is used to generate dynamic content on shop fronts. There’s zero reason as to why it wouldn’t work with data supplied by 3rd party API’s, although WordPress code won’t natively work for obvious reasons, and as such, this code would need to be re-written. The JS part will likely work with minor modification, but not the PHP file in it’s current form.

@phenomlab said in Hardening WordPress - Reducing the attack vector: @jac Microsoft’s and Google’s Authenticator both support TOTP - essentially, a time based system that changes every 30 seconds. The main principle here is that the device itself carrying the One Time Passcode only needs to be in sync with the source server in terms of time, and can be completely offline with no internet access. Provided the time matches on both devices, the One Time Passcode will be accepted. Applications such as Microsoft Authenticator and Authy also support push notification meaning you just choose either yes or no on your device when prompted, and then that response is sent back to the origin which then determines if access is granted or not. One of the best looking password less authentication models was CLEF - sadly, this product died out due to a lack of funding (if I recall correctly) although some open source implementations of this have appeared quite recently. Essentially, both products will achieve the same goal. TOTP is an industry standard, and widely accepted across the board. Not all services offer push confirmation. Many thanks for the detailed reply mate. There’s some great advice in there that will help me secure my accounts.
