Yes, an SPA by default will handle differently compared to classic applications, but that’s where the division stops and the blurred lines start. Flarum is based on PHP, which, because of it’s need to compile everything when accessed, will always be slower.

This comment is correct - and totally honest

And if you review the thread below I started back in the day before I switched to NodeBB (the best thing I ever did in my view), you’ll see my point clearly - the most glaringly obvious is this

@phenomlab i remember this thread at that time never took it seriously, it is a eye opener.

I’ve checked nodebb and discourse too both have got good scores when comparing to flarum.

@Hari Yep… Now you know why I jumped ship - that and the complete lack (or interest in) a GDPR plugin.

  • here I am after a few weeks, finally, i am so happy to announce we are working on a new WordPress theme using wpDiscuzz

we had to abandon the old theme since freshers built it, the old theme is so messy. however, we will take a few lines of code from it.

flarum to WordPress migration plugin is also ready. 🥳

the new theme is inspired from gatsbyJS, flarum, nodeBB, BBpress and discourse 🤪

@Hari this looks fantastic. Is it all open source ?

  • @Hari this looks fantastic. Is it all open source ?

@phenomlab yes, the migration plugin is already open source.

We have siForum which is open source

We are forking SiForum , mostly a child theme to make it work with wpdiacuz

Wpdiacuz core plugin is open source, other extensions like front end moderation are premium plugins from wpdiacuz.

We will not edit any plugins, we will be only adding CSS theme template to one of wpdiscuz style template.

I have tested all plugins and the scores are really impressive on DO droplet.

A costly (time, energy, the struggle) lesson learnt from flarum, i will never go out of wordpress eco system ever in my life again

@Hari sounds very exciting. Thanks for posting as I’m sure there will be others looking to move away from Flarum back into WordPress. Up until recently, there was no clean way to do this from the automated sense, so this is quite a game changer 👍

@phenomlab how come this guy has got 100 score and total blocking time to 00? It only happens in case of no data? Or it’s a local host test?

@phenomlab i have seen nothing.community using flarum 😂 i pity on them, atleast 1 discussion is not ranking top in the Google. Instead of discussions all the profile pages are been ranked. They could have chosen NodeBB or discourse

I could have sponsored a advanced SEO extension but it is a rabbit 🐇 hole, “if it’s not worth you can not make it worth” no matter how many revisions they do it to the core or release extensions to fix … it is really hard to efford, maintain and lead a happy life with flarum. Most importantly devlopment cost is high, flarum is nothing less than having a gold digger girl friend. I have learnt a very costly lesson.

@Hari I hear you. One of the key reasons as to why I exited their ecosystem.

    Madrid Protocol

I am not going to use this theme or distribute it. it is an abandoned project (when there was no dev available to build flarum extensions for us we had to work on an alternative WordPress theme - features like guest posting, SEO changes are still big issues with flarum)

I am aware of this Madrid Protocol. they have opted for rights in their country only. (it was an a individual request exclusively valid for their own country)

usually site design will not have TM or IP (as far i am aware of)

@phenomlab said in move out from flarum to wordpress:

I’m not sure that their trademark extend to the site design, but it might be worth checking.

    exactly

and i am not going to use this replica 🙂 if we have to go for WordPress or react we will opt for commento.io or something else.

i promise this will not go into the web. i will continue to love flarum 😄

  • @Sala ouch. But very true.

  • hello everyone, i want to update you about the progress of migrating from flarum to Wordpress. All of the data is successfully migrated and we are working on a new theme which is really good, we took the skeleton of SiForum and simply changed the header and footer … for our new theme we inspired the look from gatsbyjs / docs page. 😛

    SiForum home page example: https://www.atarikafa.com/topluluk/

and we are using wpdicuzz and not doing any customization to it except defining the colors in the settings area, everything is fully lightweight and easily upgradable to new versions of Wordpress or wpdiscuzz, it is working super fast without CF APO… if we enable APO that would really boost everything…

we are using YARPP and CPTR plugins to generate related posts and built a custom-related categories plugin for single.php which will create good link juice between pages (we know too many links in a page is bad SEO so we have limited related links to 5)

using CPTR if we add 2posts as related posts it will render 3 other posts from YARPP plugin in total the page will have 5links

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/custom-post-types-relationships-cptr/

life is really good with Wordpress and wpdiscuzz … i wish wpdiscuzz supports SVG for their icons and has more support to build custom styles… it;s hard to find good devs who can write good CSS styles for wpdicuzz and my Wordpress theme … due to this we are sticking everything to basic.

flarum has great developers who can build anything if we have money, Wordpress has good devs but it is hard to find people who are ready to work with us.

@Hari the real issue here is that I don’t think it can be used as a theme for WordPress because of the dependencies it clearly has, including its own Web server. My view here is that this is designed to be a complete development environment outside of the WordPress core.

Quick update - I decided to do the redirect from sudonix.com to sudonix.org using Cloudflare’s Edge Network as it’s much more efficient than having to send the request to this server for it to simply then bounce back.

@hari the cache level for woocommerce should always be bypass. Any caching of woocommerce will cause you serious issues and will result in the checkout process not functioning correctly. This does mean that the overall experience will be slower (depending on geographic location) although CF is known to cause significant issues hence the need to bypass. If you want to cache as much as possible, then set rules to bypass caching on the cart and account pages etc.

@phenomlab said in Hardening WordPress - Reducing the attack vector: @jac Microsoft’s and Google’s Authenticator both support TOTP - essentially, a time based system that changes every 30 seconds. The main principle here is that the device itself carrying the One Time Passcode only needs to be in sync with the source server in terms of time, and can be completely offline with no internet access. Provided the time matches on both devices, the One Time Passcode will be accepted. Applications such as Microsoft Authenticator and Authy also support push notification meaning you just choose either yes or no on your device when prompted, and then that response is sent back to the origin which then determines if access is granted or not. One of the best looking password less authentication models was CLEF - sadly, this product died out due to a lack of funding (if I recall correctly) although some open source implementations of this have appeared quite recently. Essentially, both products will achieve the same goal. TOTP is an industry standard, and widely accepted across the board. Not all services offer push confirmation. Many thanks for the detailed reply mate. There’s some great advice in there that will help me secure my accounts.

@mike-jones Yes, you’ll typically see this type of behaviour if there is another style that has higher priority in the sense that yours will be overridden. Using !important will override the higher preference, but should be used sparingly rather than everywhere.
