Apple, what were you thinking?

  • And so it seems that Apple themselves have been forced to admit their own misguided judgement and have fallen on their own sword.

  • i used iphone 15 pro, but now i bought samsuns s24 ultra because of ai tecnologia.
very good telephone samsun s24 ultra 🙂

  • Interesting comment from Tor Myhren (Apple’s vice president of marketing communications):

Creativity is in our DNA at Apple, and it’s incredibly important to us to design products that empower creatives all over the world.
Our goal is to always celebrate the myriad of ways users express themselves and bring their ideas to life through iPad. We missed the mark with this video, and we’re sorry.

I wonder what Steve Jobs would have thought about all of this?

Yes, I have the same model. Was a OnePlus user for years - until I found out they purposely slowed down the last model I had (OnePlus 9 Pro) with updates intentionally so I’d have to purchase a new one at some point. That kind of tactic never sits well with me.

@phenomlab Although Steve Jobs had a more ambitious personality, I believe he knew the importance of being constructive… I think he would not approve of this ad based on destructiveness…

@crazycells Neither do I. Personally, I think he would have been mortified at the very concept, and probably would never have approved it’s release.

  • I just watched that ad, and thought it was terrible. I see that they took it down. I thought oh there is big tech smashing all things that are free thinking, creative and inspiring. I have never been an Apple fan. Their stuff is way to proprietary and they have things so locked down that heaven forbid you try thinking outside the box. I will give them that if you are one of their fans, that you can just plug in apple products together and everything will just work. I will give them that, but that is it.

You can do so much more with an Android and a PC than you are able to do with an Apple. The only way I would use one is if I worked for a company and didn’t have a choice in using it. Other than that, give me a PC/Laptop and throw Linux on it. Grudgingly I will use Windows on them, but preferred is Linux.

They could have done so much better with advertising their product. They could have uplifted all of those things to have inspired them to create what they created. They could have honored those items. Those items have inspired so much of our history, from music to even what programming is today and how things are made.

It doesn’t surprise me that someone in their company came up with a shitty commercial like that one. They just want to crush everything that makes this world what it is today. At least they had some smarts and took it down and rethought the commercial.

@Madchatthew I think they only took it down because of the amount of complaints they received.

Apple’s vision of perfection and replacement is clearly not shared.

Very true and I am glad it isn’t shared.

@Madchatthew I refuse to be locked into the apple ecosystem. Nothing more than Linux in an expensive suit.

    I 100% agree with this!

  • I had an iPhone about 12 years ago, I generally don’t see the fascination with Apple products, they are completely overpriced for starters and I’ll never ever buy an Apple product again.

@JAC I use one for work because that’s our standard, but aside from that, I’d never have one through choice. My wife swears by them and refuses to use anything else as does my daughter.

I maintain two devices - one for work which is corporate and managed, and Samsung S23 for personal.

  • My daughter needed a new tablet, which was an older Samsung. My wife wanted to get her an Ipad. Fortunately, I was able to talk her out of that and show her how much better an android tablet would be. Preferably the Samsung S9 Ultra tablet. By the way, that thing is outstanding! Great purchase!

and BOUM Personally, I don’t hate American companies. I use their products like everyone else, but I think their economic weight is such that they impose their own rules instead of respecting those of the countries where they do business. And here, for once, the DMA is putting the church back in the middle of the village (French Expression).

@Madchatthew yes, talk about assumption. So typical of Apple.

@JAC wow. Thanks for the great comments. They are truly appreciated. I tend to agree with the social media comments you’ve made. This is made all the more prominent in relation to recent events in Southport for example, and toxicity is a huge issue. Just look at some of the comments from trolls - they are truly disgusting, and the perpetrators seem to take great delight in the anonymity the Internet affords them. forums in general are much more subject focused, easier to moderate and users are less likely to be banned because they are there for a specific interest or reason, not to cause trouble. Agreed, although discussions can still get out of hand and quite often, these are left to run riot and quickly spiral out of control. A great example of that is here https://sudonix.org/topic/141/how-to-destroy-a-community-before-it-s-even-built there’s something much more calming about coming to a specific page at your fancy, posting and taking part in healthy debates over the real mishmash of social media. Yes, I personally prefer the atmosphere of a forum against the backdrop of unwanted noise via social media.

@crazycells that makes sense. Microsoft tried something similar with Windows but called it “optional updates”
